    Form 4 Trust
    Osprey 45k
    purchase 4/23/16
    checked cashed 7/27/16
    stamp in hand 7/7/17
Similar to Geclevel above, likely bs story from LGS about inventory at time of purchase. But neither here nor there at this point. Put some rounds down range this afternoon and had a good time.

For everyone else out there buying their first NFA item, GET A SERIAL NUMBER FROM THE DEALER WHEN YOU GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY SO YOU CAN HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE.

When did you mail it in?

The dealer said he was going to the bank to get a cashier’s check as soon as I left and that he would mail everything in that afternoon. My best guess is the can he showed me was a floor model and he Form 3’ed the one I have in hand now. That would account for the 90+ days between purchase and check cashed. Just a theory, and since I didn’t know better to get a serial number, it’s all speculation. He also wouldn’t respond to emails or follow up phone calls 8 months out when it seemed like I should be getting close. And it happened at the same shop to someone else who’s active on this site. So a lot of circumstantial evidence pointing towards fuckery. I’m happy the wait is over, the shop was super busy today, and I didn’t see a point in making a scene.

Good times from here on out. Thank you everyone for posting to entertain the rest of us through the wait.

so you have no clue as to when he actually mailed it? To Mike’s point, it would determine whether your app was pre or post 41f. That’s all.

ALSO I’m assuming you didn’t fill out a Responsible Persons form at the time… sooo it would be missing some important paperwork

Edit: Stamp dated 6/26/17, stamp in hand 7/6/2017. So excited, didn’t even know what day it was.

Mike and Andrew: no idea when he actually mailed everything; first NFA item. On the bright side, there weren’t any problems with the paperwork. The idea was to be way pre 41F by purchasing in April but when I found out my check cashed date was 7/27, figured I didn’t make the cut off and expected to submit additional docs per the new rules. FWIW, one more data point for everyone.

Mike, this will make you happy! I have found my first confirmed POST 41F approvals. 2 Form 4 Trust silencers purchased July 18th 2016, mailed July 28th 2016.

    Approved July 10th, 2017

The scouts have crossed over to the other side!

Not mine and owner not a member of the website, so not entered into database, but it is a conformed post 41f so I figured you would be interested.

Awesome! I just mailed in a second one on Friday for a 556 can. Submitting for. 762 in two weeks so I’ll update again once I have some check cashed dates. Hopefully once they get into the purchase slowdown we start to see wait times shrink significantly…

This looks like a nice thread to stay on top of. I made it through the 41F madness with with my two cans, both took 369 days from purchase to in-hand. I have two post 41F cans in the system Jan and March of 2017. I am very hopefully that once the pre 41 F traffic is done, we will see a steep drop in approval times.

Is it strange that I don’t believe you? Seems like you have made a habit of making your own news on here – most of which turns out to either be false or you contradict it later on.

Got the call from my Dealer yesterday. Form 4 Individual (post 41F) was approved on July 7th. Pleasantly surprised as I had actually called for an update on July 7th and was told that my application was still “pending.” Dealer said this was the first “New Stamp” they had seen so far. They seemed surprised the application went through without any issues. Spreadsheet has been updated.

    Mailed 8/2/16
    Check Cashed 8/7/16
    Approved 7/7/17
    Received 7/17/17

Awesome, so great to see. Looks like all individuals so far though…I’m “assuming” the process for a trust is the same just every responsible person treated as an individual.

I believe that the trust submissions spend time in some sort of “legal” department to verify they exist(someone posted something about this forever ago). With the background check for everyone and the extra verification individual forms should be slightly lower on wait times. Just my assumptions as well though.

I know we all wish we could update the process – one major part being Trusts and people that aren’t first timers through the process shouldn’t require the same effort…

For example…you could look up my trust and see that I’ve been approved for other items already…then just run a report back to that date for any changes.

        but I’m just a management consultant…what do I know

Well if you look up 479.63(c) of the Consolidated Federal Code which you can find on the ATF web site, you would see that the trust documentation can be replaced with a certification memo if the trust was used for an approved in the prior 24 months. I am not saying this will speed up the application, but I am sure hoping it does. I just sent in a form 1 packet using the certification memo. I will definitely be letting you know if it works any faster or if there are any problems.

Or just do what I did. Don’t have trustees at time of purchase. And amend trust later. That would speed up the process.

So far it looks like mainly individual post-41fs are getting approved, I’ve seen a few trusts scattered but not sure

with the number of trusts submitted on this site vs individual I do find it odd the amount of individuals approved compared to trusts for post 41F. I was under the assumption that it was all in 1 stack with no reason as to what gets approved when. how ever I remain hopeful in the fact that I am an individual form 4 in late September hopefully not too much longer. I called on Tuesday and was told one more month but who really knows. with the data the ASA sent out in the email with there only being 30000 pre 41fs left and aprox 50000 post 41f left in 2016 this was in May when they were supposed to be processing 8000 – 10000 weekly. if that was the case worst case says 10 weeks would have them all done… its been 7 if you don’t count any in may which logically they should be almost done with 2016 how ever that is clearly not where we are. so I guess its all just lies lol

spot on lol. I think there were a lot of Form 1’s included in the 8-10k number that weren’t properly accounted for. I just bought a condo so I at least have some form of distraction for the next few months…but damn I want my 10/19 (m16)

oh who knows. I’m still happy that any post-41f stuff is coming through and that the pre-41f bubble is almost popped. I know there are still a bunch out there – probably sitting on a slower examiner’s desk. It seems to be luck of the draw with who gets assigned a certain stack. Just buy parts the kill the time. I got an 11.5 SOLGW upper yesterday that I plan to use on the M16 eventually. Breaking it in with the SBR lower this weekend

It is possible the ATF has moved towards examiners specializing in Individuals/Trusts/1s or 4s. If they are having specific examiners only do individual forms while others do trusts it would explain the speed that individuals are getting approved. It doesn’t appear as if the one stack thing is true.

or like any gov job you have 4 ppl standing around 1 person working their a** off, the trust ppl and like shhwoooo I think ill take a 40 hour break lol honestly I think all of the work except signing the form is prolly contracted out to random firms that took it on as contract work. one company in who knows where cashes the check puts in in a pile, sents that pile to another company just to enter it into some kind of system ( prolly the same system use to shuffle cards at a black jack table in vegas) then they send the forms to the atf who then prolly shuffle the deck more just because the house always wins. one the atf pulls your form they prolly send it out to another company that will back ground check you which makes no sense because your ffl does the same thing. then once that comes back good they send it back to the aft where it will be sent back to the first person cashing the check just to make sure uncle sam gets his 2 hundo im fairly surprised its not about tree fiddy at this point. then finally the aft gets it back and signs it and mails it to the post office just to do 3 circles around the persons house who bought the nfa item before it gets sent to the ffl/sot dealer. to me this process is the only way this is taking this long.

Long time listener, first time caller.
Got several cans on order this week, figured I might as well go big.

The guy at the shop shared some numbers but I am taking them with a huge grain of salt.

    He said:
-The ATF currently processes 7.5k-10k applications a week.
-For the first half of 2016, they received 250k applications
-For the second half of 2016, they received 30k-50k applications. Same for the first half of 2017.

I find it hard to believe only 60k-100k applications have been submitted in the past year, seems really low.

Regardless, I am prepared for a long wait.

Um…Not sure how accurate his numbers are, but I wouldn’t be surprised. People went into a panic the first part of 2016. Anyone who was even THINKING about buying an NFA item hurried up and bought theirs prior to 41f. So normal purchasing for the entire year of 2016 got condensed into the beginning of 2016. Naturally the buying dropped off after. Also in 2016, once Trump was elected everyone held off on buying suppressors assuming the HPA would pass quickly. Another telling point is how bad the gun industry (suppressor manufacturers especially) is hurting. People aren’t worried about gun rights taking a hit so they aren’t out buying every gun and accessory they find (well, your average consumer. People like us will still buy everything we can, lol).

I hope he is right, because I just submitted 2 form 4s in May 2017.

    Purchased on 8/23/16
    Form 4 mailed 8/23/16
ATF says form 4 received on 8/25/16 (called on 7/21/17 and was given this info)
    Check cashed 9/16/16
Received error notice on 7/18/17 apparently my dealer used the pre 41f form ? That’s what he says. Forms filled out and mailed on 7/19/17
Called atf on 7/21/17 to inquire about any delays from this and was told shouldn’t hurt me as they were still processing July 2016 forms. I guess they do some pre screening? My first NFA purchase so I’m not sure how it all works. A copy of my form 4 was in the error package and already had my photo scanned to it so maybe that’s something.
