It means those that went to the FBI in July. I know this because I just had approvals arrive at the dealer this week. Those 2 had their checks cashed in early May and went to the FBI for the background on 8 July. So anybody with checks cashed before 1 June should be real close, checks cashed in July are still 1-2 months out.

Thank you that makes sense. The process is just so vague with “pending” or “pending fbi” etc. I’m an early June of last year so hopefully not too long.

It’s infuriating. I had my check cashed 4/16/18 and my examiner said it was sent to FBI in September. What the hell are you doing waiting 5 months before doing a background check? Why the hell are you processing forms submitted AFTER MINE faster?

Similarly, I also have checks cashed from start May 18 to end June 18 and NONE OF THEM HAVE EVEN BEEN ASSIGNED EXAMINERS YET.

-Form 4 individual sent out 6-22-18
    -Check cashed 7-15-18
-ATF called last week and said Pending. not sure if they are the examiner or not, does anyone know a way to speak to an ‘examiner’. They said they can only see pending or approved.
-Sent consent to my Senator on Jan 30, 2019. One of the aides called on March 13 (thanks shutdown).
    -Lets see what happens.

Checked cashed June 28th 2018. ATF told me they received paperwork July 2nd 2018. I was told today that it is still pending. The guy said that they are running at 9 months now from time received. What some real .gov bullshit this is.

Yes, that’s what I was also told, 9 months to the end of process, doesn’t matter when check was cashed.
    Submitted ATF: March 2018
    Check Cashed: May 23, 2018
    At NFA: Aug 16, 2018
Form 4: Pending 9 months (Estimate Late April or early May 2019)

Nice, I have a SS trust, Griffin Armament GP5, Check cashed on 06-25-18 and
a Q Half Nelson, Check cashed on 09-06-18. Both are still pending of course
but it sounds like my GP5 approval should be coming up in a couple of months
and the Half Nelson should be in by the time I get back to the States in December. 🙂

Update to 03-04-19 post. Had just been told all 6 backgrounds cleared. 03-18-19 Dealer called stated NFA paperwork was there to be corrected. Corrections made, paperwork on way back to specific examiner to be (finished upon his receiving packet) according to the examiner. The last time I had to make a correction I had stamp within 2 weeks. We are close now. (hopefully)

I figure you’ve tried calling but if you haven’t then you might try that because my check was cashed on 1/28/2018 and I called on February 26th and they approved it on the 28th. Doesn’t make since how they skipped us.

One person trust approved 3-15-19. About 9 months from my 6-12-18 cashed check date. Issued paperwork 6-05-18. Dakota Silencer Varminter 4.0 (now called the ‘Banish 30’). Excellent experience with Dakota Silencer would definitely do business again!

I would like to add an important point. Three days before approval I called the NFA for status and was told to call back next month. Three days later and Bam. I see a few folks here experience the same coincidence: a courtesy call followed by an impending approval. Messed up.

Checked cashed May 23 2018 on a two person trust. Called Friday and she told me I was still pending. She said they were averaging 10 months and I should wait a month before calling again. Sucks cause I called mid December and they said 7 months average back then.

I am in the same boat as you check cashed 5/21/18 received by the ATF on 5/23/18. I was expecting a 7-month wait on my submission when I originally filed but then the shutdown happened. Hopefully were are close to approvals. The most frustrating thing about this process is seeing approvals for cans submitted after yours, that’s just my luck. 🙁

I gave in and called for mine, here is the latest:

    Received: 01Jun2018
    Check Cashed: 03Jun2018
    Pending: 07Jun2018
    First Corrections Sent: 07Jul2018 (ish)
    Second Corrections Sent: 19Mar2019

So the second correction date would have been the approved date, but the dealer forgot to sign a box on the document. From my experience, the correction process after being fixed only adds a week or two to the time frame, most of that time being US Mail transit time.

My forms were theoretically sent in December 10 2018, but I still haven’t seen the check cashed (is 15.5 weeks). Should I be alarmed and start investigating or is that par for the course now?

    thanks

That depends, did you send it via a trackable means? I have been through this rodeo many times and never once has it taken more than a few days from received to check (or card) cashed. The administrative staff unpacks and separates your paperwork and the check goes straight to the US Treasury. Only once they have confirmed good funds will they place your application into the pile.

So if you didn’t use a trackable carrier, that means your paperwork was lost somewhere and they might not even have it.

My forms were theoretically sent Oct 2017, did not find out the paperwork was still at the store and never sent! Took the forms an sent them myself, May 2018, check cashed May 23. Now April 2019 still waiting.

Just got a call from my dealer this morning. They have the Obsidian9 available for pickup. Of course I can’t pick it up for like a week or so.. :/

Check cashed June 4th, 2018. Time to check cash to phone call = 300 days flat.

Some useless ways to look at the wait time:

    25,920,000 seconds
    432,000 minutes
    7200 hours
    300 days
    42 weeks and 6 days
    82.19% of a common year (365 days)

You can get your wife pregnant and have a baby in the time this took.

9 months 27 days. About 9 months and 26 days too long.

As of today, 4/1/19- 436 days.

    Check cashed 1/20/18.

Apparently if you get a goldbrick slacker of an examiner then your wait is interminable.

How do you know if its approved before the dealer receives the stamp in the mail?

You may contact the ATF directly during normal business hours at (304) 616-4500. Make sure you know serial number of the NFA device, the maker (Form 1)/requestor, and the name of the dealer (if inquiring about a Form 4). The ATF person will let you know if your Form 1/Form 4 is “pending,” “approved,” or “denied/rejected.” If your status is approved, the ATF will recommend that you contact them again in a month from the date of approval if you either don’t get your stamp in the mail (Form 1) or if your dealer does not have it (form 4).
