TrooperBrian: excel point! My biggest pet peeve on this sight might be the raw data being presented without any filtering/verification as to its accuracy.

    NFA Tracker: thank you!

Is it accurate to say the more approved stamps you have, the faster all subsequent stamps get approved?

No. It doesn’t matter if it’s your first stamp or your 100th stamp, it gets processed the same. But if you’re at 100 stamps, I would have bought myself a lifetime FFL and bypassed this whole process!

Americans are expected to file 481,000 forms this year. Divided among 26 examiners working 261 days a year, that’s over 9 forms per hour. I’ve worked as a compliance auditor, and it is soul sucking work to look at the same form for days and days on end.

These poor NFA people are quite honestly being worked to the bone because they don’t get a penny of the $100 million tax stamp revenue and are dying to hire 2 extra examiners, even though they could use probably 20 more. I’d be sending them a thank you card and a box of candy if I thought it would even reach the examiners.

So why does the “average wait time” graph have a form 4 Efile if the ATF hasn’t accepted Efile for a form 4 since 2012?

The label is wrong. They are working on fixing it.

Also efiles went down in 2013.

I’m not an attorney but I’ll bet it’s illegal for that dealer to use your silencer while you’re waiting for ATF approval. That is your property and I would not appreciate that if I were in your situation. I know it’s definitely immoral. I live in the Lynchburg Va. area and my class 3 dealer would never do such a thing. If it bothers you, try to find a dealer with a better conscience. If you’re anywhere close to Lynchburg and want to know my class 3 dealer is 1st class. It sucks to spend that much money and be treated like crap. In my opinion that is a huge issue these days, there is a lack of consideration in a lot of people especially in business.

Purchased 2/27 (NINE MONTHS as of today!), check cashed 4/6, form 3 approved 5/6, still waiting, will be calling ATF this week if I don’t hear anything. I would hope it’s approved and is in transit to dealer. These dates align pretty close to the post a few about this so that’s encouraging.

Irritating that it took five weeks to cash the week when I read case after case of others getting cashed in one or two. How can there be that much disparity in examiners’ work loads?

I don’t think it’s a workload issue. I think that some examiners are newer or temporary and take their time so they don’t mess up. I have a friend with a mid March form 4 that’s also still pending.

I made a long post about this before. Mathematically speaking, they are expected to process 8-10 forms an hour. Which is a lot of forms per hour for how many sheets are in one form. Five or more days a week. Every week, all year.

Had the same thing happen to me Tf2addict. Form 4 submitted 3/18 and check cashed on 4/22. Had 2 other cans submitted 4/7 and they both had check cashed dates of 4/12. I called the ATF to find out why the delay in cashing the 3/18 check. Was told by ATF person that the credit card on file for payment of the tax stamp (Silencer Shops Credit card) was declined and had to be resubmitted. Called Silencer Shop to get info and they said possibly the ATF entry of CC payment may have been keyed in wrong but that all was good. Who knows. I still have not received approval on the two 4/7 Form 4’s or the 3/18 Form 4 yet. Called right before thanksgiving and was told that they are all still pending. The wait continues.

There were a lot like that.

The issue is that F4 submissions go to a P.O. Box in Atlanta, where B.O.A. opens everything and processes the payments. With card submissions, they try entering the numbers exactly once. If it doesn’t run through, even if it didn’t work because they entered the information wrong, that’s all she wrote: Then they pack it back up and return it to the applicant.

2 cans purchased On July 6th 2016, differnet dealers. one was received and cashed on July 12. the other was mailed on the 11th according to the dealer. ATF has NOT keyed it in to my name yet. The dealer says other guys in that package sent in have received a cashed date. I guess mine was split in a different stack. The ATF lady said they are still keying in stuff from July 18th. So its not looking good for me. I guess I’m gonna be on the tail end of the 8 month wait time. lol. At least my efiled form 1 should come quicker. maybe.

Don’t feel bad: I’ve been calling to find out when they cashed the check I sent with an F1 on July 12th, and their answer has been “It must not be in yet, try again in a week or two” for the last two months.

Got mine today, Cashed 4/4 Approved 11/14 Stamp delivered 11/30.

It’s going to be interesting to watch the tracker chart curve drop next year. Better yet, the whole need for this tracker stuff to go away 🙂

    NFA item: Suppressor
    Form type: Paper form 4
    Transferee type: Trust
Filed date: 3/21/2016 – through silencershop
    Approved: 11/21/2016
    Stamp Received: 11/30/16

Of the 5 NFA items I’ve waited on I’ve never called the ATF in WV asking about the status, until today. That’s right, I called this morning (11/30/16) and they said it had been approved approx 1.5wk prior. And then about 6 hours later my FFL called me saying the stamp came in! Amazing!

From date of check cashed to approved date: 226 days or 7 months 12 days

From date of check cashed to stamp received date: 235 days or 7 months 21 days

For what its worth I purchased 2 machine guns from Ruben Mendiola in Miami in mid March. Stamp was approved Oct. 28 and Rueben called me the morning of Nov. 8 immediately after opening the ATF mail. I got my two new guns and a new President on the same day. The guy who had the appointment after me was picking up FORTY THREE machine guns! Oh the envy 🙁
