It sounds like you and I are in the same boat. Form 4 approved but no stamp. I hope its a simple ATF admin issue and not a dealer jerking my chain.

    Purchased colt M16 MG June 8 2018
    Check cashed June 18 2018
    Stamp approved March 28 2018
    Recieved stamp????
The wait after approval is almost worse than the pending approval.

Your dealer should be receiving the approval & stamp any day now. Delivery times via the USPS are anywhere from 10 – 12 days. Why? Who the hell knows other than it’s the USPS and or the ATF WV mail boy is using his sick days or vacation hours…

Lucky, you would love to have an M-16 just can’t afford it at this point.

Cashed 5/16/2018 and still waiting (324 days). This strikes me as a bit ridiculous and I have 3 more purchased since then that I am also waiting on. What’s the longest wait time you have heard of?

Hate to say it but I’ve seen a few well over 400 days. Mine was 6/12/18. Took them until a week ago to tell the dealer two corrections had to be made.

Check cashed for Form 4/submachine gun on May 23, 2018. Form 4 approved March 11, 2019. Form 20 to transport machine gun into Maryland submitted March 18, 2019. Form 20 approved on March 23. No Form 4 in hand. No machine gun in hand. No call from dealer. Will contact ATF again on April 11, 2019.

I called the ATF, (304) 616-4500, to request a status on my Form 4. I informed Jennifer that the last examiner recommended that I call if I didn’t hear from my dealer by April 11th. Jennifer confirmed that my Form 4 was approved on March 11th and that my Form 20 was approved on March 23rd. She concluded that since my dealer doesn’t have my Form 4 by now then it is lost. Jennifer instructed me to draft a letter with my serial number, mailing address, and request a certified copy of my approved Form 4 to be sent to my home address. Once received, I can use that “copy” to present to my dealer to acquire my NFA device.

Dude, that sucks! I hear a lot of stories of the stamps never arriving. You would think something as important as one of these stamps would have tracking and maybe even require a signature.

Thanks man! I’m having lots of fun with this “new toy” (even though it’s not a toy). Couldn’t cycle through 1,000 rounds fast enough. The target was cut to pieces. I wish you well on your Form 4. You should be hearing back from the ATF soon.

Check cashed 3/22/18. Keep getting the pending response when I call. Contacted my congressman 3 months ago and got a response back that didn’t really explain or say anything. I’d be upset if I was a manufacturer of these products requiring the long wait. I know I’ll never buy one again unless the time is shortened substantially.

Got good news today. My Senators office contacted the ATF on my behalf, he said the FBI background is completed. Now its waiting for whatever comes next.

    Sandman K
    Purchased 6/20/18
    Check cashed 7/15/18
Cleared FBI check as of 4/4/19.

    Called ATF today, still pending.

Hopefully it wont take long to get approved knowing the background is done.

You contacted you reps after waiting 8-9 months? There current estimation is 9-10 months. I have items with a check cash date of 7-2 and 7-26. I wasn’t going to get my state reps involved until its after the estimated time frame. Hopefully that gets them moving on other stuff!

I contacted two Senators and a Congressman weeks ago. Useless. All they do if forward the bs they get from the atf rep.

One didn’t even bother to read the details of my issue and checked the wrong form.

Yhose agencies could care less when politicans reps contact them.

Ascent 22 suppressor purchased from LGS on 5/31/2018
Paper form 4 mailed to BATFE on 6/1/2018
Check cashed on 6/12/2018 (12 days)
    Approved 3/22/2019 (283 days)
Stamp received at LGS on 4/6/2019 (15 days)
Total time between purchase and stamp = 311 days

    Tracker updated with these dates.

Interesting that I also purchased two M4-2000 cans from SS that same week. The forms were e-filed and the checks cashed on 6/4/2018, eight days before the one for this paper Form 4. Called BATFE last Friday and those two approvals were still pending. Hmmm…

Those forms could not have been efiled. Efile for Form 4 hasnt been around in years.

I phrased that poorly and thank you for the correction. What I was trying to communicate was that the SS purchases were done electronically (online purchase) while the Ascent purchase was done with my own handling of the paperwork and submission. I assumed (incorrectly?) that the SS paperwork would have been received at ATF prior to the Ascent’s given that the payments were cashed a week sooner.

In any event, thank you again for the clarification, I appreciate it!

It was through silence shop, guess I just assumed it was electronically transmitted from them. Thanks for catching that glaring inaccuracy.

So I have been waiting roughly 400+ days since my check was cashed and called the ATF today. I’m not sure if this has been mentioned previously, but I spoke to my examiner and asked him why people are getting approved before me even though they purchased something months after I did. He said that for the FBI background check if you have never been arrested the computer will ok your check and it will be approved. In my case I have a misdemeanor from college 12 years ago so my background check was flagged and has to be viewed by an actual person. He said that he is currently receiving approved checks from the FBI that were submitted to them in early August of last year (from ATF to FBI). Hope this helps anyone who is in the same boat as I am.

      Ordered 3/18/18
      Cashed 4/19/2018
Entered FBI Background check limbo mid September. No priors. Not even a speeding/parking ticket in over 12 years.
Finally went into pending status Mid March 2019.

362 days from cashed date. 394 days since purchase. I’m hoping my next 3 will be on the opposite of the wait spectrum. Never had to wait this long before. Form 1 Individual. Rugged Obsidian 45.

Good deal…congrats…you & I have the same check cashed date, so hopefully I am getting close…I know there is absolutely no logical explanation with the order in which they approve…July’s before June’s, June’s before May’s etc. etc….but seeing approvals in July gives me a little hope, that I am at most 1-2 months out LOL

Form 4 individual. Purchased 3-14-18. Check cashed 3-27-18. Has been pending background check since 8-18-18. Frustrating… Sent a letter to state senator. Quick response, but so far zero results. Quite ridiculous…

Good news today. The gun shop that I purchased my SBR with Silencer called. And told me that one of my two stamps came in today. They did not have my SBR stamp.

    Purchase both on 6-22-2018
    Checks cashed on 7-12-2018
    One Stamp received 4-18-2018
    SBR stamp received ???

I never got a call from the ATF. When I asked the gun shop employee who called me about why I did not first get a call from the ATF, she told me that “no one gets called by the ATF”.

And they sell a lot of these SBR’s with silencers. Maybe five a week. She said that they should receive my other stamp “shortly”. I will call then again to tomorrow to ask how long the average lag time is. Surprised both stamps did not arrive at the same time. But happy one did.

My silencer does screw off, so she said I could come in and bring the silencer home. But maybe I will wait a few days so I can bring everything home at one time.

It shouldn’t take longer than a week for your dealer to get it.

Send an email to nfafax@atf.gov email them a request for a replacement and they will need the ATF control number, the Mailing address, Serial number and a signature and date. I had to do this for a Form1 app and I got a replacement about a week later.
