spoke with Laura (who unlike Stephanie is much more honest) and my Oct 24th app has gone through background check and pending examiners review. Might not mean much but certainly a progress. As far as where they are, she said they are processing Aug and Sept with only a tinny fraction of July app remaining. And those apparently have some hair on them. I told her a buddy of mine received a mid Oct approval and she said they have “agents helping” them process applications and they will grab them out of “first come first serve” order. Apparently they will not scale back on the amount of applications they process until they get inside of 6 months processing. Some good news!

That sounds about right and I would suspect that they get to the 6 month point by 1 Oct 2017 as that is the start of the fiscal year (that would mean 1 April 2017 approvals) and they want to make full use of the money they have for overtime and extra contracted/term help before that money runs out. Good news.

That is good news, I have 7 suppressors ordered through Silencer Shop this year. The dates for the orders range from Jan 5, 2017 where I ordered 2, a Gemtech Mist and a Surefire Socom 762 to June 9th where I ordered a ThunderBeast Ultra. The real bummer is that the first order was in limbo until May 17. I noticed that the Form 4 had no status so I called them and they did not submit the order saying i only had one tax stamp. I asked why did no one call me or email me and they gave me a few different excuses.
But hopefully my other Surefire Socom 556 which was placed Jan 13 will be here some times before Thanksgiving.

Just an update on my SilencerCo Hybrid, Checked cashed 8/27/16, approved 7/27/17, stamp and suppressor in hand 8/2/17. Finally the wait is over. Was supprised how quick the stamp came after approval, as I am in the pacific northwest. Hope this gives someone hope out there.

According to the Texas Silencer Company page on Facebook (Somebody on the AR-15 GOA page shared it):

As a result of ongoing communications with the ATF, Texas Silencer Company has been informed of significant improvements to the tax stamp approval process for silencers. These recent improvements by the ATF will dramatically decrease the time a customer has to wait to receive their silencer!

In consideration of the ATF’s formal announcement process, we are choosing not to be specific regarding expected wait times, but we can say that it will be reduced to levels we have not seen in many years.

This is great news for silencer customers! Stay tuned to Texas Silencer Company for more detailed information on this development.

I ain’t from Texas but I liked the page so I can see whats gonna happen. Here’s the link, you may need an account to view it: https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1638362919507316&substory_index=0&id=841858095824473

I read some of the comments. Texas Silencer Company claims a major announcement should come this week regarding quicker processing times.

Possibly, but it sounds bigger than that. Total speculation but, maybe they’re going to stream line the process in more ways than one?

The big news and change SHOULD be “From now on you need to pass the STANDARD firearm background check to be able to take your suppressor home. Afterwards the DEALER needs to submit all required paperwork for registration.” 12 months down to 12 minutes. Problem solved.

I know, I know, we shouldn’t have to register this stuff (not getting into that).

If there is going to be news I doubt this is it. This is a blog post that does not cite any sources. He is taking silencer shops post from yesterday, and personal anecdote, and making the (not unreasonable) assumption that something has changed in the form 3 process.

You might be right. a later post from Texas Silencer Company says it is even something bigger.

        “Texas Silencer Company, Inc.

We will be announcing the specifics soon, but this is a TOTAL change

        .”

Hi everyone! Long time listener, first time caller… I read this and I shot coffee out my nose.
I’m willing to bet the “Big News” is that they finally got back the last of their pre-41F form 4’s. My shop that is currently holding my SilencerCo Hybrid hostage just put out that message via Facebook today.

Hopefully we’ll start hearing more of this from other dealers.

TLDR: ATF creates stand alone division for all things NFA. effective April 3 (August?) 2017.

I don’t think so, that announcement and action happened back in April I believe.

I’ve been looking all over the ATF’s webpage and kept looking at Texas Silencer Company Facebook page for anything. I’ve also kept an eye on a few other pages and I haven’t seen anything that is new other than the Form 3’s being approved within a day.

I’m getting the impression that someone at Texas silencer was talking to someone at the atf and heard what they wanted to hear rather than what was being said. At this point I am almost positive that what was being referred to was the ffl newsletter that came out this week talking about the NFA division announcement, which of course was not new news. Anyway, this post has a lot of good information https://blog.princelaw.com/tag/national-firearms-act-division/ Direct from the atf, they expect a 6-7 month turn for forms submitted today.

I concur. I routinely review the federal register and nothing has been put up changing federal regs/process/rule changes (this must happen and allow for public comment prior to any changes) Additionally nobody else have said anything except for Silencer Shop and the short turn around on form three. The above tracks with Laura’s comments (NFA Branch) about 6 month turn arounds and the ATF’s notification about branch reorganization (old news just now implemented because of the same Federal Register notification requirement).

This wouldn’t be the first time a silencer company got in front of themselves ……… Silencerco and the HPA

Not your fault. We all fell for the HPA/Silencerco hype and after all this waiting it is easy to hang on every word of change and improvement.

Shame on Texas Silencer, not you.

I just want to know why is it taking so long to cash that check… Usually they in a hurry to take my money. Oh well I guess it will be another year to get my two stamps back smh. This is ridiculous to wait for something I purchased and can’t pick them up and especially when I already own some. It should be once you are in the system with no problems then we should walk out the gun store that same day with our item!

These kind of comments on this board always make me laugh. The reason this doesn’t work is because the atf files are completely non searchable. It’s literally scanned documents that can not be character searched that are grouped by dealer and date and have to be manually searched if anything needs to be pulled. This is the result of most gun activists fear that if the big bad government has a useable database of gun ownership the man will come take away all their guns. Then the minute this turns out to be in some way inconvenient they are like, here, take all of my information and make it easily accessible so I can buy NFA items faster!
