Still waiting on my form 1 E-file, but I went to the range and brought my fn 509 tactical. The guy at the range saw the threaded barrel and told me if I was shooting a suppressor on it he would need to verify my tax stamp before they would allow it. I laughed in his face. I obviously wasnt shooting a suppressor but it’s the first place I am going after I get the approval and build it.

Was he an ATF agent? Otherwise it’s none of his business, been there.

You have to take into consideration the range in question would likely also be considered liable in some way in the event someone is caught with an unregistered NFA item. We all know the feds don’t operate on any basis of logic so I, personally, feel keeping everyone happy is not unreasonable.

That said, sounds like the response Josh gave was appropriate considering he didn’t have any NFA items present.

There’s no law or NFA regulation that requires or even suggests that a range has to police NFA items, so getting in trouble with the ATF isn’t a real issue. The only potential liability that I can imagine is someone hurting another by not controlling a machinegun. That said, the range has much more potential liability by people with non-NFA items hurting others. If someone gets hurt, there are decent odds that there will be a lawsuit regardless of who’s actually at fault.

A range can ask for whatever they want and deny you for any reason. I assume this is private property and not a state or federally funded gun range. Obviously we care about private property rights—correct? Hell they can even charge you a fee for bringing in outside ammunition. You still have to wear hearing protection at a range even with a silencer, and that’s not tacticool at all. Just go to the hills and run some drills.

Sure they can. Some rules are logical while other times people are just being jerks. When a company treats me poorly, like when they treat me like I’m a criminal, I just don’t go there anymore.

I’m with you on that. I have 3 silencers and couple approved Form 1 items and I don’t go to stupid ranges. But I hear it often especially here that they don’t have a right to question NFA items.

Local police don’t even have the authority to demand to see it. However they can hold you till an ATF agent is available to demand it. ATF as we all know runs on their own time tables lol.

    Fingerprint card received date: 1-10-2020
    Aprroved date:1-30-2020

    Total wait time: 33 days

They told me to expect 30 days from the date the fingerprint cards are received. Obviously that is the case and am now wondering if I would have had it 10 days sooner. We shall never know.

Geez, for $200.00 you’d think you would get a ‘real’ tax stamp and a hard copy of the approved and signed Form 1. But, maybe that’s part of what makes the eFile process quicker. For me it was 32 days.

Thinking about a second Form 1 suppressor for my other rifle – an official Red Ryder, carbine action, 200-shot, range model air rifle, with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time… 🙂

Its been a while since I got my last can. I got mine just as they changed the system and it took 360 days. I ant to get another and I am confused. I am seeing folks only taking less than 60 days to get approval on suppressors with form 1? Am I missing something?

Yes. The suppressor that you purchased was made by someone else. Therefore, it transferred to you on a Form 4 just like a factory SBR or machine gun would. If you make a suppressor or SBR yourself, you’ll submit a Form 1 for approval. Those are currently taking under 60 days if they’re e-filed.

Hey guys and gals. My first form 1 E-file so…. My question is on a form 1 individual. The Cleo form does it have to be signed or just dropped off? If it has to be signed what do I do with it afterwards? Considering its a infringement of A2 it should all be used as toletpaper. But I’m not a criminal and don’t wanna start now what’s the ruling? Thanks everyone may it go fast!!!

Nope, just print out the copy of the Form 1 that has the “CLEO COPY” at the bottom of the page and mail it to your Chief law enforcement officer at the address you provided when you filled out the eform under the section “cleo information”, that’s it. What I did was have it mailed with a tracking number so I have proof it was delivered. Whatever they do with it after it has been delivered it none of your concern. You have done your part in accordance with the law. Good luck to ya!

There is no longer a signature requirement. The requirement is that you just have to provide your CLEO a copy. It doesn’t say how. I mail it at the post office at the same time I mail off the fingerprint cards. They give me a receipt that shows the zip code that the fingerprint cards and CLEO letter are going to. That’s my proof. However, reality is that’s not really required. You can hand deliver it or send it some other way. The only way that it would ever be an issue is if you have some sort of criminal record and your CLEO claims he didn’t get it.

I submitted one on 1/17/2020. It was only “pending research” for about 30 minutes. A coworker did one two weeks later and his was two days. (Mine was approved in 28 days)

I had one that was “pending research” for several days. It was for a Childers 5.56×45 marked receiver. Since 5.56×45 wasn’t one of their choices, I think they had to do some investigating.

You are about as long as I have seen heaRd of. Monday is a holiday, if you don’t hear on I would “ask the experts”. In December of submitted 4 Form 1. 1 went straight to submitted, 3 pending. 2 business days later, 2 more went from pending to submitted. 2 more business days after that the final one went from pending to submitted.

Also double check your eform and make sure it was submitted after it was filed out. I didn’t actually submit mine which pail things up for about a day until I realized that. You should of gotten your cover letter with your control number emailed back to you within a few hours.
