It Doesn’t trigger a deeper look per say. Every time a person has a hit for an investigation or arrest the FBI needs to verify as to what it was for and what the outcome was. A lot of time it takes time for them to request the records to see that it is indeed nothing that warrants a decline in the approval process. So if someone had recently done a T3R or T5R (previously NACLC or SSBI) the system shows a hit that an investigation was previously done on said person, and the FBI simply needs to verify that it was for a clearance and not a criminal investigation. Due to the level of clearance a request needs to be made for access to the record for them to review. Honestly it shouldn’t add as much time as it seems to, but it seems they didn’t gain any more manpower like the BATF did to upkeep with the growing requests.
