I have two e-filed form 1’s, filed on 5/16 and 5/19. Hoping they come through in the next 1-2 weeks. Will let you all know when.

Thought I’d start a post for form 1’s since I see them sometimes pop up on the form 4 posts. If anyone else wants to share their recent form 1 approvals, I’m sure others would appreciate it as well.

To the NFATracker guys, I think your scatter graph for approval times could use a minor adjustment in the “Transfer Tracking” -> “Wait Times” scatter graph. I’ve had the same think happen in excel for “A”:

    A) You’ll notice the X-axis doesn’t quite match the actual data point call out values. I think possibly the x-axis values are lined up with the middle point between the lines, not the actual x-axis major grid lines. I notice it specifically when I click on a point, and, say, a more recent June 9th point is to the right of the 6/16 grid line. Either the grid lines need to be updated, or you need to add minor grid lines.

    B) Using that same June 9th point, it says “170”, which I assume means 170 days. That can’t be true since June 9th is about 5 months prior to the date of this post, or “roughly” 150 days. I’m assuming for e-files the “check cashed” date is the same as the “purchased” date. It’s confusing because I’m waiting on mid-May applications, which make sense with a “170 day” wait time, but I see “June” submissions being logged as approved. Is this a user error, or a graph error.

    -Thanks

I was looking at it as 6/16 = June 16th, but now I realize I’m an idiot as it means June 2016 (I’m conditioned from my usual formatting of mm/dd, not mm/yy)…

My other point (B) is still up in the air. I’m assuming I’m reading that wrong somehow? What does the number after the date mean? I thought it was days from check cashed to approval, but how can that be if one point I see was submitted on Jun 17, 2016, and was approved 162 days later, which would be Nov 26th (18 days from now)? Maybe the graph is erroneously showing days from purchase date to approval?

The Avg Wait Times bar graph shows an anticipated wait time from check cashed to approved of 130 days. That must be a trailing 12 month avg, since a 6 month avg would be closer to the reality now of ~180 days.

I e-filed my Form 1 for an SBR 6/30. I’m thinking I might have another 2-3 weeks, perhaps a month.

My Form 1 trust was e-Filed and paid for by credit card on 5/11/2016… and it appears that my response is overdue.

It’s been 182 days and I’ve seen nothing in the mail. Who should I contact to see what is going on?

You will get an email notifying you that your status has changed from pending to approved. Just keep an eye on your email address that corresponds with your eforms account

I’m glad to see some current feedback as to eflied form 1 times. I eflied a form 1, for a SBR on 6-2-16. I’m hoping I receive my stamp before Thanksgiving. I know that is a tall order but I’m still optimistic. You see I would like to utilize my SBR AR-15 for hunting and the season runs out the end of the month. I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve, you see I also have 2 form 4s submitted the same time for silencers. I believe they won’t be approved until the new year. Anyway I do appreciate the current information on approval times.

Thanks for sharing. I have e-files from 5/16 and 5/19 that I am waiting for, so now I’m both mad that I haven’t received the one yet, and happy that both must be within days of approval.

    Feedback from a couple sources:

One guy on the local board recently had Form 1 approved.
    Form 1 (Trust) Paper
    Mailed: 4/18/16
    Check cashed: 4/25/16
    Stamp Approved: 10/28/16
    Stamp Received: 11/10/16
    206 days mailed to received.

    On another NFA site:
    E-filed 5/9/16
    Approved 10/31/16
    175 days

So it looks like they’re into April/May submissions for Form 1’s right now.

Received my e-filed form 1 approval this morning:

    e-filed: 5/16/2016
    Approved: 11/18/2016
    Approver: Nathan Hartsock (I think)
Time from e-file to stamp received: 186 days

You can see it on the wait time scatter plot, one of the higher points in the cluster around 5/16. One down, one to go (+ four F4’s).

For those of you lucky few that received recent approvals, anyone care to share you permit number from the eforms system? Just looking for a rough idea. I don’t think it matters, but don’t put your exact number up as I would gather someone could get personal info from it somehow. Anything is possible.

Reason I ask, is I submitted three sbr’s in roughly 12 hours, and the numbers appear sequential. So my permit numbers are in the high 316,000’s but not 316,100 and the last one from July 1 was upwards of 317500. I has me wondering if they process these in order. If so, we might be able to track where they are currently approving and even possibly how many the actually approve in a day. Might be interesting, or might not make any sense like most things atf.

You can omit the 2016 as I gather we are all in the current year, hopefully any way. I found it crazy that roughly 1500 sbr were submitted July 1 if the permit numbers are in deed sequential I am in for a longggggggggg wait.

Soltrust do you know if the ATF assigns different numbers for each kind of form submitted? I’m also curious as to the number reviewed each day. I just don’t know if there are different numbers for form 1 eflied. In other words does the ATF have a separate number code for SBR vs silencer. Also are they broken down by forms? If you know, then let my know. I have no idea. As far as I know they could just assign every application from the same set of numbers. I submitted 1 form 1 trust online 6-2-16 and 2 form 4 trust through the mail around the same time. I’m sure my form 4s won’t be approved until after the new year. My form 1 should be any day now. The only way I know that is because of the information from this web site. I think the submissions closer to July will be bogged down because of the great numbers. Anyway I am thankful for this website and appreciate the information.

Received my SECOND e-filed form 1 approval today just now (Happy Friday to me):

    e-filed: 5/19/2016
    Approved: 11/18/2016
    Approver: Heather Thompson

    Soltrust, my 5/16 e-file has the 10-digit permit/control # ending in 2416xx. The 5/19 e-file # ends in 2464xx.

    On 5/16:
    King = 240,1xx
    Me = 241,6xx
So we might presume that at least over 1,500 were filed on 5/16!

Me on 5/19 = 246,4xx so within three days it went up by at least 6,300. Maybe ~2,100+ per day filed in that period if the numbers are sequential? Poor ATF staff, I hope they really did staff up recently, for their own sanity.

The other interesting point to consider is are they really even doing a good back ground check. I bet if we continue this exercise we will really see they are licking and sticking. Likely too our 200 bucks just supports another worthless process and not any real vetting as I suspect.

Pretty cool information though keep it coming guys.

As to the question regarding form permit number assignments, I don’t know if they process a form one separately under a different permit number than say a form 3. My guess is that anything entered in eforms, be it a form 1,3,6, ect would be additive. If not it really shows how worried people were about the election. That’s almost 300,000 dollars a day in form 1 efile tax but our country is in debt go figure.

Judging by your numbers and again this is rough, take say 246400-241600=4800 applications in one day processed….. hmm. Using this, there is 70,000 between your approximate permit number and my approximate number. So at 4800 a day, mine would be approved in 15 business days or approx dec 14th. Again factor in holidays and winter depression and if they process nothing other than Efiles, January 15th? We will see.

Just a thought to NFATRACKER, if you could get a big enough sampling on permit control numbers that we could input on our entry page with our other dates, and you could get a rough estimate of the number approved per day. would that not help you tighten up your estimated approval date ?

    Waiting on 3 e-filed F1s submitted/IP:
    5/20 @ 1830 hrs 62473**
    5/20 @ 1900 hrs 62474**
    6/17 @ 1900 hrs 62904**

Also took notice of the possibility of consecutive control numbers after back-to-back submissions in May. If so, during that particular time interval of approx 30 mins (1830-1900 hrs) there were 12 submissions based on the difference between my control numbers.

I think they’re the same, no? Take off the first 6 (part of the “2016” on the beginning of the permit #), and his would seem to be in line with the other members’ permit #s leading up to it.

      5/16 = 240,100
      5/19 = 241,500
      6/9 = 270,900
      6/17 = 290,400
      6/24 = 302,400 (advert LLC)
      7/10 = 329,300 (advert LLC)

What’s very telling is that between May and just before 41F in July there was something like 100,000 forms filed, 50k per month! How does that compare to months/years prior?

I don’t know how likely people would be to also input their permit #’s with their form 1 or 4 info, but that would be a very powerful data point. I personally wouldn’t mind putting the exact permit # as I don’t think anything of value could be taken from it by a “criminal”. If someone had the know-how to hack the ATF database to go find me specifically based on that ID #, that’d be the least of my worries.

they are all assigned a control number when received by the ATF. so the control numbers could also be accounting for all forms received by the ATF. form 1,2,3,4,5,6 etc…

Good point, I’m still waiting on my first ever form 4’s submitted in June, so I probably won’t know until a few months into 2017 what those numbers are.

Anyone have any recently approved form 4 permit #s to compare these to? I’m guessing anyone with early April form 4’s would be the closest we’d get for now. Perhaps if anyone calls to check status they could ask what the permit #s are on pending apps?

you do realize there are forms dealers send in when they sell to another dealer or manufacturer sell to distributor or dealer and so on. theres a form submitted when a manufacturer creates an NFA item. not the us lowly consumer end forms (1&4).

If they were smart, they would NOT have them all share common permit #s. That’d be a terrible system for organization (I think), a form 1 be permit # 2016000001 and a form 4 be 2016000002 if that were the order they were received in. You’d have form 1s, form 3s, form 4s, form whatevers all as separate permit groups, separate “piles” each with distinct consecutive numbering systems.

    Thanks everyone for the updates.

    Here are mine;
    Both Form 1, Trust, E-files

    6/16/16 – 285,3XX
    6/17/16 – 290,0XX

Not enough info to be representative, but it looks like they were getting almost 5k forms a day in mid June.

I e-filed a Form 1 Trust on one of the worst days to do it: June 30th, so the crunch was already on with the mass of filings to beat the deadline. I had just bought my SIG MPX a week before. You know, the “perfect storm” situation. So, I got the Trust paperwork all done and emailed off, along with the debit card for the $200 and now it’s just a matter of waiting. And waiting. And waiting. I’ve carped and bitched and whined a little bit, but it won’t change anything. At first I was hoping at least by Thanksgiving. Not gonna happen. Then I thought Santa would nudge the BATFE Fairy and I’d find something in the email long about Christmas morning. I’ve actually given up on that, and am expecting something maybe in January. Perhaps in time for Valentine’s Day? All I can say is…I feel everyone’s pain…try to stay happy keep your eyes on the prize: the Stamp.

Does it say submitted/in processes all the way up till you get the email saying it has been approved?

I’m hoping to get a email any day now. But with this being a holiday week. its probably going to get pushed back even more.

Getting a lot of good help here, just by reading. I’m a novice, this is my first ever stamp application, which I did via Form 1 efile. Where do you find the “number” that I see people mentioning?

    Thanks.

Logon to the eForms site (which is down for maintenance on Wednesdays). Under My Forms, expand Submitted/In Process, then click on the eForm you submitted. One of the columns will be Permit Number, in the format 2016253000. Just omit the 2016 part, and the remaining number is what everyone is referring to. This is also your Application Number, and sometimes referred to as Control Number. It should be on the initial email you received when you submitted your eForm.

Hard to believe that there is 2100 form 1 entered in one day.

I think that it includes form 1, 3 and 4. There’s no way that in one day there was 2100 form 1 submissions.

I don’t know about that.. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit. There were a lot of people on trusts submitting before the 41f deadline to avoid the new rules and expectedly longer wait times. The end of May and June might have been a pretty big push. But who knows.. I know I was one of them.

    I’ll throw this out there,

I have a form 4 suppressor that was approved in 2013(rest are pending)

There is a stamped number on the top of the page and another, which is different, hand printed on the physical stamp.

Neither of the two number sequences starts with the year as these e-files do.

The hand printed number on the stamp is in the 900,000 range but starts with either a S0 or a 50.
    Example- 50900000

The one at the top is in the 30,000 range and starts with either a CO or C0.
    Example- CO30000

I see no other reason to start the sequence with 2016 unless it starts from zero every year which is identical to how most every law enforcement agency that I am familiar with assigns case numbers.

I held off after the initial request above because my data is three years old. However…..I am going to go out on a limb and say these numbers we have been posting, at a maximum, only represent items that are e-filed. At a minimum they represent e-filed form 1’s.

To clarify I mean a mechanical stamped number at the top of the front page.

And a hand printed number on the $200 tax stamp

Nothing next to the control number section it’s blank

Great thread here. I sent off three e-file form 1s (trust) for SBRs:

    6/17/16 – 289,0xx
    6/24/16 – 302,8xx
    6/24/16 – 303,0xx

Still haven’t heard anything but at least I got my SilencerCo Omega from the paper file back in March (took right at 9 months).

    Hope this helps

Also, as an interesting (IMO) side note, I filed one late last year on 12/23 (created date) which needed technical clarification and was submitted 1/11/16 and approved on 4/13/16.

The full permit number on that one was 2016938xx. So notice that one had a 5 digit unique identifier after the 2016 prefix. You think that means that ~217,000 forms were submitted between January 11 and June 28?

I’ve had that happen as well. I’ve always found it either to be their site is just crappy sometimes, or more frequently that by changing browsers/computers it then works. Sometimes on IE it won’t work, but on Safari or Chrome it does. Recently it didn’t work on chrome, so I switched to Safari that same minute and it worked.

Last year the atf processed like 312,000 total transfers according to their revenue page. So roughly double that for this year, and yes I think it is entirely possible 400,000 of these were submitted by July.

The following four Form 1/Trust E-file SBRs were completed this year:

    Submitted – Finalized – Permit #
    2/17/2016 – 7/30/2016 – 132,0XX
    3/18/2016 – 7/30/2016 – 165,0XX

These two were disapproved, and I resubmitted with fixes within 48 hours via email, they were issued new Permit numbers and finalized.

    Submitted – Org Permit # – Resubmitted – Finalized – Final Permit #

    12/29/2015 – 78,8XX – 3/28/2016 – 3/29/2016 – 176,8XX (Org Permit number started with 2016)
    12/30/2015 – 80,3XX – 4/6/2016 – 4/9/2016 – 194,2XX (Org Permit number started with 2016)

I’m glad to see their back working. I hadn’t seen any approvals scene Thanksgiving. My patience is getting thin. I was hoping this week but looks more like next week or possibly the week after. I eflied a form 1 trust June 2nd. I broke down and called today and was told 8 months. The rep I talked to told me some bs. He said that they do every form in order. According to everything I’ve learned here that is total crap. I read here, posted in another forum, that people have requested to talk to the examiner handling their submission. I’m about willing to try that. Has anyone done this? If so then how did it work?

I know that the wait is frustrating, I’ve done it many times. But what do you think calling and talking to the reviewer is going to do in speeding things up? Unless you have made a mistake in your paperwork (which they will notify you of) they will process your form when it comes up. Calling them only distracts them from processing forms.

Like the recording at the ATF indicates, unless it has been over X months, don’t even bother calling. (X has been 6 months in the past, now its 8 due to the 41F heavy load).

I’d rather have them processing forms than answering the phones for folks asking “Is it done yet? Is it done yet? How about now? Is it done now? Are you done yet? Hurry up!”

I agree. I know, as well as everyone else, the aggravation of waiting, but the two times I’ve called, I have hung up right after the recording says the estimated wait time because I know talking to someone will have no impact on approval status. They have no reason not to process them as fast as they can because if they don’t it will only pile up more and more.

The way I pass the time is work, shooting, reloading, and chatting with fellow disgruntled NFA purchasers to air my grievances with how long it takes. My SBRs came through recently, which is why I’m not on here as much as I was, and when my other stuff comes through in a few months (few… HA, I hope “few”), I’ll be on even less and reloading even more. This is the only website I’ve ever participated in the forum of.

This whole process is like having to use the bathroom. When you know you’re far away, it’s a little easier to hold it in. When you get close and can see the bathroom, it gets a lot harder. When you walk in and can see it, and you’re waiting behind someone in front of you, you start having psychotic thoughts because you think you can’t hold it anymore and the pain feels excruciating. Clocks start spinning backwards. Then you final go. It’s glorious. Happiness and relief replace anguish and agony. You walk out, and you think “eh, whatever, that wasn’t that bad.”

Devildoc what roughly was your permit number?

Hot off the presses from the atf:

anticipate an 8-month processing time for an eForm 1 based on the date of submission of the form due to submission volume. The form will not be assigned or reviewed until reached in the queue and, if contact is necessary, the examiner will contact you then. The status will remain as submitted/in process until final action is taken. When processed, you should receive an email notification of the final action with a pdf of the form and the form should also appear in the appropriate folder in the eForms system. Please contact the NFA Branch at 304 616-4500 for any status. Their customer service representatives can help you.

Soltrust it was 247712 and the email came in @09:00 yesterday morning by what looks like examiner J.A.Bauers. And on another topic of heated debate I talking with an agent the other day and disscussed engraving, I was told it’s not necessary since the Form 1 was filled out with the manufacturers info and serial number and the stamp identifies it as such putting the trust info on it would make no difference 😑

It looks promising that my form 1 efiled 6-2 should be approved by Christmas maybe as early as next week. I also have 2 form 4s filled at the same time. Unfortunately I think they are caught in the log jamb and could take up till Spring before they are reviewed. I’m thinking that the closer to the July cut off that forms were submitted the longer it’s going to take. If they are reviewing 1500 forms +/- a day now then when they get towards July forms it will take days, if not a week, to review a days worth of submissions. Unless they add on additional staff. I hate saying this but that’s the way it looks to me.

Well then. I guess they don’t go in order. My form 1 was 5/25 numbered 2526xx. My form still reads in process when I log on.

I am feeling cheated, LOL. I guess they do not go in order of permit number or date when approving them. I filed 5/26, permit 254,2xx. Still not approved as of 3:15PM EST. What state are you in? It may have to do with the region. I am in Michigan.

Is it common from the atf to be inconsistent with the order that they approve forms in?

I think the forms are assigned randomly and the different approves work at different speeds, so approvals can be out of order.

It’s my understanding that the reviewers are assigned states. So that is why I think it appears that some approvals are not in exact order. Also I submitted a question by email as to the required engraving. I had saw where someone posted that it’s not needed. A representative from the DoJ emailed me back and confirmed that a SBR created from a form 1 did require the entity that filled the form 1 engrave their name and city, state where SBR was made. So like my 1st SBR I’m going to engrave this one.

This is getting so frustrating. A lot of us are 5/26, 5/27, 5/28. I swore id see something this week. I don’t get what takes so long, other then just to make it painful and hope that people don’t do it for that reason alone. Hate to say it, but if we don’t see the approvals next week. You can kiss them good bye till at least mid January with the holidays.

And from the sounds of it they just sit on them for a week before mailing them anyhow. so then again that puts us into January.

Relax Pat. I do know they work weekends. I also know that I was 4 days after the first approvals I seen from the same day mine was accepted. 5/25. Also you don’t have to worry about the mail. Form 1’s efiled will come in the form of an electronic stamp in your email. You just print it out. So no waiting for mail.

Well I guess it’s a chance my submission might get approved by Christmas but I’m not too hopeful about it. My form 1 was submitted on 6-2 and its starting to take a week to review a couple of days submissions. I don’t like to play the devil’s advocate but imagine how long it’s going to take for the submissions sent in in July.

I submitted 6/2 as well. On the “All Transfers” list there’re some approvals after 5/27, with most current ones being 6/2 and 6/3(Lucky folks who get the random way out of order approval). The 255,XXX seem to be the most recent control numbers posted for approval on this thread. Wonder if the control numbers are for all eforms, not just form 1’s? Are the same control numbers issued to mail in forms as they’re received and scanned in?

Yep my 6-2 form 1 is numbered 2620XX. I haven’t seen any form 1s posted recently. I wonder if they rotate what kind of forms they are working on. Maybe form 4s this week and form 1s next week or do they take them as they come. I doubt they take them as they come or else the turn around times would be the same. Anyway it lessens the anxiety to vent through this page. It also gives me hope when I see progress.

    Masterdrago,

Now I’m even more confused by their numbering system.
    I have a Form 1, Efile, trust from 6/16/16 with control # 2853XX

2600 numbers earlier, filed 2 days later!

    Hmmmm?

At the beginning of the month I really tough Id see my approval by Christmas, But it seems they have come to a grinding halt. my 2876XX filed June 16th. The only thing I can think of is all the form 4’s that were pouring in have slowed the form 1’s. I also have a form 4 waiting since June 2nd. Realistically im thinking March on that one.

Now, the count down continues for my 2 suppressors both submitted (paper, trust, form 4s) in early July… hoping to get em by at least the end of April but we all know how wait time expectations on the ATF goes, LOL.

keep the patience my NFA friends, your times will be here soon if they were close to my submitted dates.

On 6/2 alone control numbers range from 260,700 to 262,000. 1300+ submissions!

From 12/15-12/19 approvals range from 255,000 to 262,000.

On the upside my 6/2 submission is working its way to the top of the graph πŸ™

    Howdy.
    287xxx submitted on 6/16/16.
    Still listed as submitted/in process.
    Paid by card.
Does anyone know if they charge the card when submitted, or am I going to get a surprise $200 bill coming out randomly?
    Thanks,
    RipT

Rip Tombstone just like every government agency I know of both state and federal, they all collect the money as soon as possible. If they were as efficient at doing the task they are getting paid for as they are collecting the money this site would not exist.

Mark, would you confirm that Control # please? I submitted mine on 5/31/16 as well and have # 257,6XX. Still waiting on my approval to come through, but it sounds like it should be any day now!

I think that the 5-31 approval reported has an erroneous number. I submitted on 6-2 with a number of 2620xx. At this point it would be a true Christmas miracle if my submission was approved by Friday. At this it’s a mute point because I had shoulder surgery Monday so I’m not really up to trying out the SBR anyway. If I could, I would gladly step aside so someone else could enjoy their Christmas. Good luck to everyone in the holding pattern.

I had noticed somewhere on NFA Tracker where someone posted that their approval had DRAFT watermarked on it. My 1st approved efiled form 1 had this as well. My latest approval 12-23-16 did not have DRAFT watermark so I contacted the ATF Friday afternoon and left a voice message with the agent that approved my form 1 from last year. Well I just received an email informing me of a change and I logged into efile and they updated my 1st approval with no watermark. I didn’t know any better last year. Now I’m going to print 3 copies 1/2 size and have them laminated to carry with my SBRs.

Pictures of what? I have submitted two form 1’s and no pictures or diagrams were needed. Most experienced folks building form 1 items recommend against providing pictures or diagrams. They are only required from manufacturers, not makers.

Pat, with Form 1 e-file you will not receive a physical stamp via mail, only the digital stamp contained in the PDF document that should have accompanied your approval email. I save mine to my smartphone as well as print out a color copy that I keep with SBR when I take out of my home.

If it’s a form 1 e file you don’t get mailed a stamp. Go back to the atf online where you filed your form one. You print out your electronic approved form 1.you don’t recieve a physical stamp in the mail for an e file.

It is my understanding that Wednesday is when they import the eforms. From what I’m seeing on here they are working almost everyday including weekends. They even had approvals on Christmas Eve.

Unfortunately that isn’t what happening. As they got closer to the rule change, the number of applications went up so wait times are rising. Forms filed beginning of May were at 6 months. Forms filed in June are running 7 months. Hopefully I will see my form 1 back soon. Filed a form 4 at the same time. Times for those seem to be at 8 months. I figure they will be at 9 months by the time I get mine.

I was one of the first owners to get a serial number for the new H&K SP5K and e-filed a Form 1 to SBR it on 7/4, check cashed on 7/5.

Now the bad news: Because it was a new model, ATF didn’t have a pull-down selection so I had to manually enter the model. This resulted in ATF classifying my Form 1 as the dreaded “PENDING RESEARCH”. It took 23 days to complete the “research” and have the application classified as “SUBMITTED” on July 27th. This the point where it gets put into the pile for processing and starts the clock.

Although I won’t have to do the new 41F stuff (as far as I know), when I check the application in atfonline, the control number is consistent with an end of July submission. In other words, the application got shoved 23 days to the right because ATF couldn’t figure out that a firearm everybody knew was coming for the last 2 years wasn’t loaded into their $hitty system. FYI, late July control number for my app is 3614XX. Numbers start with 2016 followed by a six digit identifier, so mine was 20163614XX.

That means that I’m over 40,000 applications further down the road. If you want to have a good idea where your application stands, get your internal control number from ATF online. Apps are sequentially assigned as they are entered into the system, and if you can do the math on throughput of control numbers, you can pretty well figure out when yours will percolate to the top. As of today, there are about 115,000 apps ahead of mine. You can calculate / guesstimate rough ATF throughput and where your application is at in the queue.

That’s definitely what you don’t want to hear as we are at the mercy of the government when it comes to NFA firearms. My guess is you will be approved in August of 2016.

Look at the bright side, everyone behind you was able to use the drop down… I guess in this case being early to the party was not a good thing…

Form 1 just came back Approved today. I submitted 06/04/2016. I filed via the E-forms with a Trust. Control number: 2016264*** That was a long freaking wait.. but now I get to play with my blackout in SBR form.

If these control numbers are as meaningful as they appear and things stay the same, the waits are going to keep ticking up…

    Approval Dates
    11/18/2016 = 241600
    1/5/2017 = 264700

    = 23,100 approvals in 48 days = 481 approvals per day.

Folks in the 300,000 range wont start getting approvals until late March. Form 1 approvals @ 270+ days, yikes.

Directly related to gun sales going through the roof, people grabbing them up before HRC wins the election. Expect applications to thin out in the near future as panic buying subsides with DJT taking the helm later this month.

I would guess that since the holidays are over there will be an increase in the number of approvals. I know in most areas of employment the holidays see a ton of vacation and they have been understaffed for a while

    6/8/2016 Submittal Form 1 Efile. #2707XX

Given a 2651XX from 6/6/2016 was just received, I’m hopeful for next week.

But that’s a 2500/day submittal rate in early June.

    6/6 – 265100
    6/6 – 266100
    6/8 – 270700
    7/27 – 361400

    So….
    Early June ~2300/day submittals
    between 6/8 and 7/27: 90,700 more submittals. (1850/day avg)

Given a 23000 approvals from 11/18 to 1/5 as stated above… and removing 14 days for Christmas/New Years. and 7 days for Thanksgiving week. 48 days, minus 21 days of “Holiday” schedules… 27 Real days. or about 855/day when you account for Holiday “Work”.

Considering we’ve seen 265100 and 266100 approved within the past 24hours, (really 15 hours) I’d say 850-1000/day isn’t out of the question… and possibly more given the late approval (7pm) of the 265100….

So, for every DAY you were behind the 6/6/2016 submittal, add two days from today. (2000 new submittals a day vs 1000 approvals a day)

The HK SP5K guy may be looking at Mid April…. Sheesh.

Well, if your number from 6/12 is 278000 then I’d say, based on the recent trend…. 12 days from now, give or take…. 1/18/2017…

but for the trend to work, I should receive my approval from 6/8 on 1/10

SN13 – I agree with your throughput numbers of about 850/day. I ran three different sets of control numbers over time and came up with a low of 600, another set at 840, and one at just over 100 per day.

So your on target with mid-April for a 361xxx control number. My worst case of 600/day put me into June. At least I can shoot the SP5K with a brace! Still lots of fun there.

I wish the tracker could set up a data field for control numbers to track submissionas and approvals. It appears to be a much clearer predictor to track throughput and estimated approvals.

It just chuffed my nuts a bit to get my submission date shoved to the right based on the pending research issue since I had a valid submission on 7/4, not amost a month later.

Well my control number is 3190xx which was on July 4 2016… I was thinking another month based on the submission dates from others. But going buy control numbers, could be longer.. Oh well. They come when they come… I just feel bad for people that have them kicked back now as there is no way to resubmit it on efile…. I had one kicked back, and emailed the examiner the new control number, after resubmitting an new form 1 and had my stamp in 2 days…

If you look at the posts from Wobble and SN13 it would appear that they are approving approximately 1850 per day and they must be working weekends. That may just mean that I will get my 3038XX, filed on 24 June, in the next 3 weeks or so. I just hope I didn’t screw up the math or worse the form.

It now appears to me that the ATF is messing with my head. I thought that they worked these form in order by control number but that can’t be true if keltecnw got his before sr3006. My whole theory about them working so efficiently has just gone down the toilet.

    Hi all,
New here but have been watching and reading.
My first two 1 Form trust from middle March to 5 months-two weeks to approve.

My other 4 are as follows:
    6/13, 287xxx pending
    6/13, 287xxx pending
    6/30, 306xxx pending
    6/30, 307xxx pending

Reading through the thread I noticed a pattern emerging.
From submitted to approved date it ‘appears’ they are processing 1 submitted day every 2 to 2 1/2 processing days.
Certainly there is nothing scientific nor etched in concrete with this apparent trend. But if you review the thread you can see this happens on an average.

So if this is correct, my 6/13 ‘should’ be approved around 1/20 – 1/21 and my 6/30 roughly around 2/22 – 2/23.

Dang, now I done gone and depressed myself…

The NFA branch is currently clearing about 1 submission day’s worth of e-filed Form 1’s every 2 – 2.5 days but that is for ‘x’ number of submissions. As the e-filed Form 1 submission dates approach the 41F deadline the number of submissions climb dramatically. As the number of reviewers (generally?) stays constant this will cause the clearance times to increase- Put another way, the closer one gets to 07/13, the rate increase of Permit Numbers takes off like a rocket. Not being a downer but trying to get a clearer picture of what the wait times will be so that the daily sense of disappointment and frustration with the NFA branch doesn’t become overwhelming. Too late.

      188,0XX e-file 04/01/2016 approved 09/20/2016 172 days
262,8XX e-file 06/03/2016 rejected 06/16/2016 – Reviewer didn’t agree with model picked from drop-down menu even though it matched the model designation engraved on the lower. 13 days

      288,9XX e-file 06/17/2016 as of 01/14 it’s 211 days & counting
      290,5XX e-file 06/17/2016 filed a few hours later (re-submission of 262,8XX)
That’s > 1,600 applications in under 5 hours. (full disclosure: June 17th was a payday Friday for many)

      318,XXX e-file 07/02/2016
318,XXX e-file 07/02/2016 14 other permits were filed between these two and I submitted them as quickly as I could, about 15-20 minutes apart around 1am in the morning.

Hoping the 06/17 Form 1’s get approved before mid-February
Hoping the 07/02 Form 1’s get approved before mid-April

About 10,000 e-files between July 2nd and 9th. Seems like the rate slows and I imagine as the website bogged down applicants were forced to abandon e-filing and switched to mailing in paper forms (I did).

I think KittyStix may be on to something. My 3038XX, filed on 24 June is now about 30,000 away from approval and if that theory is correct should kick out around mid February.. Of course this will all fall apart if they don’t keep working weekends. Look on the bright side. Once they get past the huge pile leading up to 13 July, approvals should start moving a lot quicker.

I don’t mean to be a glass half empty kind of guy but I would be surprised if your 331XXX gets approved before May or June. Being as you filed 2 days prior to 41F going into effect, you gotta know there were a butt ton of applications going into the pipeline around then. I will be thrilled if my 3038XX gets approved before the end of February and you are 28,000 behind that one.

    @sarge9667;

That’s the beauty of estimating based on control numbers instead of submission dates. Using the control numbers you can calculate rough throughput over a given period of time. This calculation has nothing to do with submission dates other than establishing a start and end date for the range of control numbers used to make the calculation.

For example, pick two different reported approvals. Subtract latest control number from earlier control number and divide by the number of days between the two to calculate throughput per day. Take that throughput and apply it to your pending control number to generate days until yours is approved.

This does not need to factor in the 41F “bulge”. That’s already plugged in based on the control number you have assigned to your pending application.

The last time I estimated mine for control number 3614xx, I saw about an 850/day throughput, giving me 105 days remaining until approval, about the end of April. After running several sets of calculations I’ve seen throughput at ~500, 850 and 1000/ day, but around 850/day has come back several times using different dates and control numbers, so,that’s my best guess as of now.

    Latest throughput from numbers above:

    1/5/16 – 2647xx
    1/15/16 – 2733xx

    8600 approved divided by 10 days = 860/day

2733xx on 1/15, to my 3614xx is 88,100 in the queue divided by 860/day = 102 days out.

ETA ~ Apr 27th, give or take a few at the current rate.

Edited to add, the smart folks here ought to be able to reduce this to a predictive graph based on control numbers. What do I know, I’m just a retired boat driver!

Well that was deflating. Based on you analysis my hopes for this time next month are dashed. Best guess for 3312xx would be this time in March.

Don’t put yourself down like that. It’s us retired folks that have the time to work on this sort of stuff. I would like to see more posts where folks report approvals with at least a 4 digit control number so that we can figure out the throughput rate and make a SWAG when ours will get approved.

I just thought of a way that we could get this whole process speeded up. Write, call, e-mail, tweet or in any other way possible contact your congressman and get them moving on HR 367, the Hearing Protection Act of 2017. If that becomes law, all of those suppressor form 4s would come out of the pile and they could work on the SBR, SBS, and Machine Gun transfers. Looking at the suppressor form 4s reported on this site, they appear to be about half of the total applications. I know it won’t happen before my SBR stamp comes in but think of the applications you might make in the future.

The second control number is 8 digits higher than the first one in the third control number is 8 digits higher than the second one. So it looks like they roughly process 8 applications an hour.

Well if it is the case that it is only 8 to 10 per hour per employee. That means they only have 10 people roughly working 8 hour shifts for form 1’s. Based of the 850 a day throughput described above. Seems awfully underwhelming for a 30 person staff and supposedly working overtime and weekend.

That’s a pretty good business, each employee is probably making $12 an hour but bringing in roughly $2,000 an hour in Revenue. I think they can afford a few more employees!!!!!

I think they may have longer shifts or maybe work two shifts. I’ve seen some approvals come in at 8:30am and some were after 7:00pm. That’s a long day for desk work. Or someone is racking up some serious overtime pay.

I think you could call the NFA folks and get it or you could find an e-filed application on the same date and do a SWAG. The SWAG would be pretty close and at least give you an approximation.

While it is gratifying to see folks with control numbers higher than mine, misery does love company, the information we really need here is information on approvals so that we can all do our SWAGs on when we should get our stamps. I am guessing that the 273 to 275 range has a chance to get approved this week. If any of you out there get a stamp higher than the 275 range, I think that would be breaking news. And yes, waiting does suck more the closer you get.

Well looking at the numbers I once had a dehydrated pet slug that looked like a gold medal winning track and field Olympian compared to the pace they are moving now. But that might just be the 3/4 of a years wait getting to my head. But congrats to everyone who got theirs today you are the few the few the few the few and the proud.

I have a Question that i’m hoping someone on this forum can help me clear up. I received an email this morning (3 hours ago) that my Form-1 status had changed to “SUBMITTED/IN PROCESS”, after 6 months. When i logged onto E-Forms, it shows status “APPROVED” with a “Finalized Date” of 1/19/2017. However, I never received an approval email with an attached PDF and the “View Form” option on the E-Forms site still shows the Submitted form with no stamp.

Did this happen to anyone else? Is it normal to receive this status change email first and wait several hours after the application is Approved to receive the email with the PDF? Is there normally a way to download the stamp from the site?

I had a similar issue. My first efile stamp, 2 years ago, had “Draft” watermarked on it. I didn’t realize it was incorrect until my 2nd efile approval last month. I called and left a voicemail with the agent who approved it and he corrected it within a week. I know they are very busy and putting in a lot of hours. Myself I do appreciate their work.

If you look at the spreadsheet you see a bunch of approvals on 1/13, very few on 1/14 & 1/15, and none on 1/16.
On 1/17 once again there are a bunch.

So I’d say most (but not all) of the examiners had a well deserved 3 day weekend.

    Hopefully the approval pace continues.

    I’ve got 6/16 2853XX & 6/17 2900XX pending.

    So getting closer!

Argh only 39,279 more to go for my form 1’s. Unbelievable I was hoping for January, but even at 800 forms a day, that’s a whopping 49 more days. Not counting sundays, that’s march 21st. So bring on April. Unreal. Between this wait and the patriots going to another Super Bowl I am getting extremely frustrated.

Have posted previously and I am getting closer, 2876XX June 16th. I have another question and I know I am in the wrong thread but any help would be great. Purchased can on 6-2 through silencer shop. Form 3 approved 7-12. I have been told by silencer shop hope for 8 months which puts it mid March. I have control # for SBR as it was done electronically, that’s the one that should be next week I hope. How can I find out approximate Control Number with out calling ATF no need to take any of their time that could be much better spent approving apps. One last question. would the control numbers for cans be the same as those assigned to SBR?

    Thanks guys

I am trying to figure out if the control numbers for silencers are theme as for SBR. If that is the case I am trying to figure out if anyone has something that was accepted about the same date as my silencer form 3 was approved. 7-12.

If you log on to the eforms page its under where it says permit number. If you submitted a form in 2016 it will start with 2016 and have 6 other numbers behind it.

Yes, you do. Trust Name, City, State… exactly the same as on the Form 1. 1/16″ min high lettering, min depth of 0.003″. The caliber must also be shown someplace, but does not need to be engraved. However, it must be readily visible with the naked eye. So if it’s printed/stamped on the barrel, but you can’t see it without removing a handguard, you’ll need to add it elsewhere. I typically engrave the Caliber on the upper receiver, as it’s not often you’ll replace a barrel in an upper with a different caliber.

If you plan on cerakoting, engrave first, and go slightly larger then the NFA minimums to account for the cerakote fill. I typically go 0.9375″ for letter height, and 0.005″ deep.

      Hope this helps.

    Hi Chuck,
    I think you meant .09375 or 3/32″
Ceracoat is not that thick πŸ™‚

    Otherwise very good advice!

    Yes you must engrave.

    Mine are pre-engraved awaiting approval.

If not ceracoating or otherwise refinishing, Birchwood Casey’s Aluminum Black on a Q-tip does a great job of darkening the engraving. Looks almost factory done, at least on an standard anodized AR.

Good luck on your approvals everyone!

Congrats flshooter! I’m 2 submittal days, and 6k control numbers behind you. Also in Florida.

Silly me… my spastic fingers dropped a zero. I did indeed mean 0.09375″. Just enough to stay in spec after cerakote. I thought about engraving after cerakote, but there’s too much risk of getting into bare metal.

Is there a requirement on how thin the letters need to be? I just had my receiver done yesterday and the text is super thin. This particular engraver is the only FFL with a laser in the area who does this type of work. I know the engraving is deep but the lines are very thin.

Marking requirements are covered by the following regulations.

    27 CFR 478.92 and 27 CFR 479.102

There is no mention of thickness, only height (min 1/16″) and depth (min .003″)

I’m Jealous of you guys getting your forms approved from 6/14! I’m 6/13 and still waiting on my 2788**!!! I wonder if the people approving them have “piles” they work from causing them to go out of chronological order. This is just me trying to justify why someone with a higher control number gets approved before me πŸ˜‰

Also, I see that people list the state they’re in, is this known to affect approval?

seems like every 1 day of submissions is taking about 3 days of time for an approval. So 27 days probably will probably be close to 90…

If we could see a couple or three more approvals with 4 digit control numbers we could SWAG how many they were getting done each day. It is near impossible to figure how many applications were made each day in the final days before 41F. The control numbers are the only way to get even close to guessing when your stamp should kick out. Also, I would imagine that Texas has more examiners working on their stuff because they have twice the number of applications reported on this site than Florida which is second. So I guess what state the application came from does matter somewhat.

I submitted a form 1 on 6/27. The next day on 6/28, I got anxious about 41F and filed another one. It was about 18 hours later, and there were about 3800 forms filed in between. So I think about 4000-4500/day is a reasonable ballpark estimate of the load filed in the final days.

I know this is personal preference, I am going to have my CZ Scorpion Evo 3 S1 engraved and am wondering what choices I have when it comes to location.

How does the polymer hold up to engraving? Or am I better of engraving metal?

Thank you in advance for your insight.

Don’t don’t believe the is a requirement for location, only depth and size. I would tell you to reach out to tommy built tactical if your looking for an engraver. He did my USC receiver and did a great job. Turn around was a week, and price was pretty good too. Not a pitch for him, but it’s a big deal if someone hack jobs it for you.

Just to confirm the above, no location referenced, so it can be anywhere on the serialized part of the receiver. I am not familiar with the evo, but looking at some google pics, I would put the trust name under the top rail after made in Czech Republic on the right side of the gun. Unless you have a crazy long trust name, it should finish before the ejection port. Out of the way and not an eyesore.

They jumped about 7-8k forms to approve beavizard’s, not sure i’d count on having yours for at least a couple more weeks. Then again it’s always possible.

      I’m still waiting on my 6/13 Form 1 control# 2789xx

    Yeah,
I was not expecting mine for at least another week or so.
Definitely seems like they leap frogged others.
Not sure how they assign or process forms.

Sorry to all those who got “skipped”

    I’ve got another pending.

Well by the formulas postulated earlier this month, I had mine figured at Friday 2/3. We shall see. Either way it sucks to be this close….

A week earlier than expect when calculated using 860 a day approval speculation.
They may actually be using the database key from the first column rather than the permit number. Makes more sense and would explain a few “out of sequence permit number order” approvals or still waiting.
The database key would be assigned as soon as the system registered the data whether or not ‘submitted’/’pending’.

KittyStixs #2879 was approved on 2/2 and my first F1 was #2769 approved on 1/23. that would mean they processed around 11k in 9 days. 11k / 9 days = around 1200 processed a day. Maybe my math is off but if not, that would mean my remaining F1 which is #3271 would be approved in 32 days. someone can check and see where my math went off the rails.

Well… since this post’s inception… and the first permit number was posted (Nov 18th 240xxx), it looks like there have been approximately 48000 processed in about 48 business days (gave some flex for low agent count during the holidays)… so approximately 1000/business day. Nice round number to work with as things stand. I think based on their pace… this is a pretty good number to work from (they may actually be processing a tiche faster if I gave them too much credit for taking holidays off).

So… the last approval posted was 2/6/17 (today) and was a 288xxx number.

At this rate, my 7/8/2016 327xxx won’t be up for approval until approximately April 3rd, unless the NFA boosts their manpower and approval rate up.

Do you guys notice a trend for wait time…. by the time the late June/early July bulge hits…. the wait time will be nearly 10 months from submission to approval based on current approval rates. (note… for approval month… used a 30 day period as I didn’t want to be messing with 30/31… etc), but you get the idea!

Bosco, that sounds about right with my current wait. Waiting 7 months & 20 days (234 days) as of today (2905XX) filed 06/17/16 and another (3046xx) for 7 months & 13 days (227 days) filed 06/24/16, UGH! At least one better be this week or I am going to need some anxiety meds. Let you guys know if the stamp come in.

    Both form-1s were e-filed.

COR3… Unless there’s something unusual going on over at the ATF… you’re 290xx should be approved sometime this week, all things being equal. I’m a little envious! Wish I would have done this a year ago.. when it was a 3-4 month turnaround!

Does anyone know if the control numbers are different for paper file than e-file?
I paper filed on the last day because the computer system was down 7/12/2016. SBR, Trust.
    Check cashed on 7/18/2016.
I called the ATF for the first time on 2/1/2017 and got a control number of 2017 51635(complete number, no xx at the end). I thought by filing in 2016, my number would have started with 2016. Not sure how many 2016 nos. they have to process before they start on the 2017’s. This may take forever!

Our numbers didn’t have XX at the end either, we just put them there so we weren’t posting the whole control number for an NFA item online. I would suggest you take at least the last two number off via a edit.

I received my approval email today and there was no PDF attached. If you e-filed your form 1, as I did, you can sign on to your atf efile account and hit the view button to see and print your tax stamp. If you efiled I’m not sure the stamp will be mailed to you.

So what do I do? Print copies to carry in gun bag. Maybe a reduced copy to carry in the grip or stock? The entire application or just 1st page with stamp?

Hard to say why the ATF does what it does. I would guess (emphasis on “guess”) that you will get approved around the same time as everyone else in the 345xxx – 350xxx range. I’m guessing that your control number was generated on 6/29, so I wouldn’t worry about it too much. πŸ™‚

You can always call the ATF and ask them what the scoop is…you may not get a very straight answer though!

I did a SBR and 2 suppressors early last year they each took about 4 months. I decided to squeak in another SBR before the cutoff.

    7-9-2016 and waiting
2016328xxx -to help those of you working on a prediction algorithm.

What gets me looking at these numbers- is the volume of like minded law abiding citizens. We really need to push to repeal the NFA. I know the Hearing protection act is queued up, but I say we go bigger. We all know the NFA rules are silly and do nothing to prevent crime. Sign the repeal the NFA petition here. Maybe we can get some traction. https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/repeal-nfa

Repeal of the NFA would crush the value of many collections out there. That’s a strange argument, I know…. but true nonetheless.
As such, a lot of people may quietly oppose it.
How about a simple repeal on the May 86 rule ?

The only problem with those petitions is that people are too paranoid or too lazy to sign them. They’re afraid big brother will show up at your doorstep all of a sudden because you support the 2nd amendment. If you pay taxes, bought a gun, bullets, use a cell phone or have an email account…wake up. The govt says they don’t have information on you, but we know damn well they do. Just jump on the boat. If you’re already registered in a government database for a class III item, what’s your signature and an email address going to do to “worsen” your situation. Millions of gun owners and we can’t get 100,000 to sign a petition. COME ON GUYS and GALS!

Two Form 1 stamps submitted on 6/21/16 control numbers 2962XX and 2963XX. Both for SBR’s. I would say that I’m patiently waiting but that would be a lie. I will update when they get kicked back to me.

Yeah, sorry Cor. It sucks waiting when you are so close. You might find some comfort in the fact that a lot of other people on here are having the same issue with 290xxx numbers. Looks like there are about 5 of us that posted on here with the same issue. I was 2909xx and I just got approved today, so I’m crossing my fingers for you that you’ll get approved first thing next week! Good luck!!

So glad to see all the approvals. Maybe there will be a little hope for my SBR that was file 6/28 Control #2016309*** to be done end of the month especially since I’ve seen some 6/20 approvals or at least by mid March. Keeping my fingers crossed. The waiting process is insane. I have 300 blackout loads already worked up and waiting to be tested but been looking at parts and pieces since forever that have to be assembled. Ok, that’s my rant for the day!!

Most of these are Trusts and since this is the efiled thread I would think that all of these are efiled.

Received two stamps today (2/26/2017 at 6:43am MST)
The last time I checked was on 2-11-2017 and I knew it would be this month or start of March when these were gonna show up based on what I was seeing here on approved control numbers.

    Type: Trust
    Submitted: via efile on 6/20/2016

Now if my outstanding form 4s for my 4 suppressors would come back I would be a happy man.

I would even be happier if the Hughes Amendment was repealed and the Hearing Protection Act signed into law.

I’m dying here…. I submitted 6/18/2016 with 2906XX and it seems like they’ve abandoned that range and jumped ahead 3000 submissions. I’d like to call ATF for an update but my fear is it might have a negative effect.

To all those waiting on “overdue” approvals, remember to log in to eForms and check on your status as well. I did NOT receive emails for my 2 approvals on 2/15, even though all my info is correct and current. I received the email for my first stamp, but not the last 2. Still waiting on 2 more for suppressors (6/23/16) and one for an SBR (6/30/16).

TC, keep the faith- I e-filed 2 on the same day (06/17/16). The first took 234 days, the other, 242. In the interim, ATF jumped all over the place approving control numbers +2k higher than the first application… So you’re not the only one.

The previous 1986 Hughes amendment repeal petition came just shy of the 100k requirement so I made another with a sharper stance than the last.

    Let’s get this right back.

Ok this thread has got a little long. Lets make this just a page where you put your submission date for e-file. Also don’t forget to put the info in the tracker database.

    Hi NFA Tracker,

Can’t you reverse posting methods, so that current posts appear first? That way looking at this on the phone doesn’t require 3 minutes of scrolling to the bottom of the page to read new stuff. It’s the recent posts that most people are interested in anyway.

I have a question, I am hoping people on here can re-assure me. I am waiting for 2 E-file form 1s files 6/21/2016. And I see that on these posts people are referring to a control number. When I log onto the e-file website, neither of my applications have an internal control number, but they are marked as submitted/in-process and can’t be modified. I also note that the format that people are posting for the control number, that my entries have permit numbers that have the same format:

20162964XX and 20163391XX (This one shows a 7/15 submit date, which is because I had to add a new caliber type to the type of receiver I was modifying).

So is the permit number the same as what people are referring to when they say control number?

    Hi dsalyers,

Yeah, everyone is referring to the permit number. If you haven’t received it yet, your 296,4XX tax stamp should be coming through any day now.

If the ATF minions have their feces centralized, you should get an e-mail. That having been said, I have a form 1 that I submitted on 24 June and I check the E-File site at least twice a day (Yeah, I am a little OCD). Got to go and check on my form again. See ya

The same place where you created the original application.
          https://www.atfonline.gov/EForms
When you get there you will see a box on the left that says “My Forms” and under that “SUBMITTED/IN PROGRESS” with a + sign. Click on the plus sign and it will open up all of the E-File applications you have pending. What you are looking for is a Finalized Date. If you see one, hit the “Actions” button and print out you brand new shiny approved tax stamp. Then it’s time to put your new bullet launcher together, load a bunch of magazines, and head out to the range.

My Form-1 on 6/10 had a control number of 275XXX, my Form-1 on 6/28 had a control number of 309XXX. That is 34,000 in 18 days. The post above shows control numbers of 318XXX on 7/2, which is another 9000 in 4 days.

This leads us to estimate that, in late June, they were getting nearly 2000 submissions per day. We also know that was accelerating into July. Recent trends suggest that they process just over 800 per day currently. At these rates, it should take 2-3 days to get though each day’s submissions. As they progress closer to ATF-41H that will likely go up to 3-5 processing days, per submission day.

Based on today’s approvals hovering at 6/21-6/23, I’m estimating approval for my Form-1 submitted on 6/28 to happen around the 15th-17th of March.

I would estimate they’ll be starting July’s submissions around the 27th of March, maybe a little sooner.

If I had to venture a wild guess on future processing, based on the trends we’ve seen so far; I would guess that it will take nearly all of April to get through the first week of July’s submissions and most of May to get through the 2nd week of July. After that, the majority of the ATF-41H backlog will be cleared, and it should accelerate.

This is just my 2 cents, take it for what it’s worth. I hope it’s helpful.

Don’t sell yourself short, that was at least a nicker’s worth, and I think you are probably mostly right. In fact, I am banking on it. I got two paper form fours for suppressors that I snail-mailed out in August that I would like to see stamped before I get too old to go to the range and use them.

Do we know that they increment the permit number by a single digit for each application? I submitted two consecutive efiled F1s within minutes of one another and they are 63 digits apart. Are the permit numbers the same whether it is a F1 or F4 or what have you?

The first four numbers are the year it was submitted in and the next six are the ones that make the difference.
Your actual number is somewhere above 310,000. I am still waiting on a stamp on an application over 6,000 earlier. Make sense?

I had a change of address between submission and approval (still waiting). So I called to verify how to update my address on current applications. While I had them on the phone, I got them to check my status (two F1s, both 316XXX). She said they were still processing June submissions, and it would be the end of March before they get to me.

Little unhelpful as this thread indicates that they are in the process of approving late June and early July submissions already.

The wait continues: 2 F1s and 7 F4s in process since late June 2016.

The ones listed above with July submissions dates haven’t been approved yet. The latest date that someone has listed as approved is June 25th. End of March seems about right based on your control numbers.

After following this site for the last six months or so, I have come to the conclusion that the NFA branch does not use any type of system to sort the applications or in which order they get approved. I am beginning to think that they just throw them into a big old pile and blind draw them out. That is the only way I can explain why Wolfk’s 3048XX filed on 25 June got approved before my 3038XX filed on 24 June. All of our assumptions on their approval production has been based on there being some order to the system and it not just being random. Are they really approving 800 a day? I think that should be enough rant for one day. Can you tell I am getting a little peeved?

I have been following this thread for awhile now. Based on the info here it seems pretty obvious that they are assigned to an examiner in blocks. They aren’t getting approved in exact order but when you consider the number of submissions they were receiving in a day it is pretty close. The variance is likely due to how quickly your specific examiner processes the applications assigned to them. When I ran averages based on approvals posted in this thread it was always between 800-1000 approvals per day. It is definitely harder to wait the closer to approval we get. For the past week and a half every time I get an email notification I have been hoping it was my approvals for my 2 submitted on 6/24 with control numbers 20163030XX and 20163031XX. No approval for me yet but it should be any time now.

And it would also appear from my perspective that our examiner has been on a loooooooooong coffee break.

Well if is true that examiners work application in blocks, the minion that was assigned the block for 24 June went on vacation as soon as they were assigned to it. You have no idea how hard it is for me to keep these posts G rated.

BTW, there’s something I’ve been wanting to ask the group here. Why do we hide the full control number? I did it just because everyone else did. Is there something specific that has happened or could happen if that number fell into the wrong hands? What could a “bad guy” possibly do to you with that number?

      Hi dough,

Most people are hiding their control numbers out of an abundance of caution. Here’s a possible scenario I could see a scammer using- He hacks a few systems and gathers enough information about someone to cold-call the ATF, give them some of the information (like the full control number), say the rest was lost when their house burned down/ex-wife shredded it during the divorce/make up a reason and completes their phishing expedition by asking the ATF to either mail them a ‘replacement’ Form 1/4 or deactivate/invalidate the current one (for kicks). I know that’s a stretch for a scammer when they can just build their own stuff and screw the paperwork- but it might not be that outlandish a proposition to a person wanting to punish/hamstring someone else.

That’d be a stretch Ray…every time I have called the branch office in the past they want to know serial number of the device and the name of the transfere (with my form 4 they wanted the transferer as well). I am pretty sure that those at the ATF would tell anyone without all this information to go pound sand.
